Regional Office of Education #13 Provides Professional Development for Area Administrators


Approximately 80 district superintendents and principals attended inservices held Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Brian Schwartz, Deputy Director/General Counsel for the Illinois Principal Association, shared legal information and compliance updates for Clinton, Jefferson, Marion and Washington County school administrators.

Nick Blanchette Earns Reward


Recently, while at PE, Nick Blanchette, a student at the ROE #13 Alternative Learning Center (ALC), found a $3,150 check from a dentist office in Tennessee that was issued to an individual. A discussion began as to whether to return or keep the check. The student turned the check over to Mr. Shifflett, Principal at the ALC. Mr. Shifflett then called the company and Nick Blanchette received a thank you card from the dentist's office as well as a $20 cash reward.

ROE #13 Alternative Learning Academy offers Free Rummage Sale and Appreciation Luncheon

The Regional Office of Education #13 Alternative Learning Academy hosted the Annual Open House and Free Rummage Sale on November 10, 2016. Students and family members were invited to enjoy a lunch of fried chicken and shop for clothing and household goods free of charge. Principal Kim Voss organized the event with donations from local churches and community members.


ROE #13 Raccoon Preschool for All Class Enjoys a Field Trip to Schwartz Orchard


Racoon preschool students and family enjoyed a day in the apple orchard! Student were allowed to pick their own apples. 


The preschool students enjoyed a stunning day of blue skies, apples and pumpkins! The Raccoon Preschool for All site offeres a full-day program. To attend, children must participate in a screening. Contact Brittany at 618-244-8040 if you are interested in scheduling a screening appointment. 

ROE #13 Hosts 37th Annual Mt. Vernon Conference


Ron Daniels, Regional Superintendent and Melanie Andrews, Assistant Regional Superintendent welcomed approximately 1000 educators, administrators, social service and correctional staff to the 37th Annual Mt. Vernon Conference. 


David Mouser was the keynote speaker. Mr. Mouser is an educator and school adminitrator who presents to students, teachers and schools on developing successful strategies for improvement. His presentations focus on making positive impact in the lives of others as a means to success. 


There were many extremely popular sessions and the event offered something for everyone who attended with four break-out sessions and exhibits.  


Technology workshops were among the most popular sessions! 


Brian Schwartz, Deputy Director and General Counsel for the Illinois Principal Association, provided an informational session on Senate Bill 100 and student discipline. 


Tom Baker and the Mardi Gras Brass entertained participants at the Mt. Vernon Conference. 


Curriculum and instruction were very hot topics at the Mt. Vernon Conference. 


Julie Loucks is the "glue" that holds the Mt. Vernon Conference together. Julie is located in the Mt. Vernon office and is always ready and willing to help!

ROE #13 Provides Special Education Administrator Academy


Brandon Wright, from Tracy, Bruan, Funk and Miller, Ltd. provided Administrator Academy #593: Identification and Provision of Service for the Special Education Student. Handouts from this Academy can be found on the Workshops and Handouts page of this web site. 

Regional Office of Education Provides Preschool for Nearly 400 Students


The Regional Office of Education #13 provides Preschool for All classrooms in Ashley, Bartelso, Carlyle, Central City, Centralia, Damiansville, Iuka, Okawville, Patoka, Raccoon, Salem, South Central and Willow Grove. Approximately 400 students from the communities we serve will attend Preschool this year.

Students enjoyed a visit from the Centralia Fire Department. Children learned fire safety and enjoyed the day! 

Nature Walk1U

Centralia City PreK students enjoyed nature walks and learned about leaves and the environment. 

ROE #13 Hosts Truancy Prevention and Intervention Inservice


ROE #13 met with social service agencies, probation department staff, law enforcement, and school district personnel to discuss truancy intervention and prevention. Policies and procedures were discussed for the upcoming school year. 


Attendance Specialists, Kari Docherty and Heather Dunmyer, took questions from the audience and reviewed the ROE #13 Truancy Manual. 

Superintendent and Principal Meetings Offered by ROE #13 


ROE #13 will offer seven superintendent and seven principal inservices this school year. Topics will include, Policies, Procedures and Services offered by ROE #13Restorative Justice and Senate Bill 100; Legal Updates for Administrators; Assessment and Accountability; PERA Roundtable Discussions; IASA Updates; and End of Year Updates for Administrators

Regional Office of Education Provides Chromebooks Training


Educators from all over southern Illinois attended the ROE #13 Chromebooks training. Butch Wilson presented the program.  

Regional Office of Education Prepares to Begin the New School Year 


Ron Daniels, Regional Superintendent of Schools and Melanie Andrews, Assistant Regional Superintendent are excited for the new school year to begin! ROE #13 serves Clinton, Jefferson, Marion and Washington Counties. The office provides the Preschool for All program for Clinton, Marion and Washington Counties. ROE #13 also offers two alternative learning schoolsm the Alternative Learning Center in Mt. Vernon and the Alternative Learning Academy in Centralia.  ROE #13 serves as the fiscal agent for Child and Family Connections for Clinton, Franklin, Jefferson, Marion, Washington, Williamson, Madison, Monroe, Randolph and St. Clair Counties. The Regional Office of Education #13 also offers has an impressive line up of professional development for teachers and administrators. We are looking forward to a wonderful school year!
