Seventy percent of adolescent girls and 45 percent of adolescent boys today have body dissatisfaction in the United States. Research links body dissatisfaction directly to eating disorders, depression, anxiety, isolation, low self-esteem, risky sexual behavior, and suicide. This is not the future we want for our children. Our children’s focus on their bodies -- how they appear to others, what to feed them, and what they need to weigh -- has become an overwhelming distraction in their lives.

It saps their confidence because they feel flawed in comparison to images in their media feed. It steals their time and energy because they spend so much of it focused on how they look to other people.  It keeps them from figuring out who they are and what they need to do with their lives, keeping them from reaching their potential.

Learn what schools can do to create a body confident environment. In this 3.5 hour workshop, for social workers, health teachers, coaches and administrators, we will 1) discuss the current body image issues for adolescents, 2) learn five steps to create a body confident school enviroment, and 3) be given instructions on how to teach a free, evidence based, HECAT complain body image curriculum for middle school or early high school.
