Students love to talk, especially to each other! Come and learn how to teach students to productively use their love of talking to promote productive discussions through the use of effective questioning. Questioning and discussion are both vital components of classroom instruction that work together to drive student learning while moving students from being passive to active participants in the learning process. In fact, questioning and discussion are so important in the learning process that it’s the only instructional component that is singled out in the Danielson Model for instruction. This component is vital in order to engage student at the highest level of thinking and learning. Specifically, we will explore what to include in productive discussions whether they are teacher led, small group, or student-driven as well as effective questioning techniques. We will give you practical techniques for engaging students that you can take to your classroom for use tomorrow!
