Suzy Dees believes that information is power, and she wants to give all teachers the power to work with all types of students, especially those with Autism. As a general educator mom of a twenty-one year old daughter with Autism, she's been at IEP tables as a teacher, parent, advocate, district office staff member, and simply an extra set of eyes and ears in those meetings for her entire career. Dr. Paula Kluth's book, You're Going to Love This Kid! Teaching Students with Autism in the Inclusive Classroom and the professional learning opportunities offered was a game changer for Suzy and her family along with all of the teachers, parents, and students with Suzy has had the honor to collaborate over the years. Suzy draws on her personal experience in combination with Dr. Kluth's work to offer a highly interactive professional learning opportunity in which participants will:

  • Identify some key components of Autism
  • Identify the 4 "Habits of Mind" to consider with students on the spectrum (and ALL students)
  • Describe how inclusion will benefit all students in the classroom
  • Participate in group discussions surrounding the topic of including students with Autism in classrooms
  • Recognize specific tools/supports to use immediately to assist in including students on the spectrum (and ALL students)
  • Identify how we can all facilitate legitimate academic and social success for our students in all settings
