Description: Students encounter metaphors, alliteration and smiles in everyday music but recognizing and interpreting them in contexts like poety, still remains intimidating. Students can learn to identify difficult concepts even in unfamiliar texts if they are first taught to identify them in songs. Using music can make for an accessible and relatable way to engage struggling or bored students allowing the teacher to successfully enable their understanding of these themes.
