The NEW First Division School Bus Driver Curriculum is for drivers of first division vehicles, multi-purpose passenger vehicles (MPPV or MPV) and passenger cars for ten passengers or fewer, including the driver. See Vehicles Used by School District to Transport Students. This does not include the multi-function school activity bus (MFSAB/white activity bus). The use and qualifications of the approved vehicles have not changed; only the curriculum/training and school bus permit classifications have changed.
Bus Driver Training
The Regional Office of Education #13 is responsible for conducting and keeping records of the initial training that is required for all new school bus and division one vehicle drivers prior to getting a permit, and the annual refresher workshops that are required in the twelve month period prior to renewing their school bus or division one permit. Experienced drivers must take a two hour refresher course annually, and all new drivers must take an eight hour course in school bus driver safety and first aid, as prescribed by the Illinois State Board of Education and administered by the ROE.
