Description:   Part 1:  Part one of this two-part workshop with Dr. Brandy Hempen will help make teaching easier by focusing on the curriculum side of things first. K-8 teachers, both self-contained and departmentalized, will spend the day learning and practicing the basics of setting up a successful classroom. You'll leave this workshop with a curriculum map and pacing guide at your grade level and in your subject area that will ensure that you know what standards to teach and when to teach them throughout the upcoming school year. You'll also learn how to develop an effective, yet manageable lesson plan format that will set the stage for differentiating instruction to increase academic growth for all students. (In fact, if you know your schedule, you'll leave with a complete lesson plan format fit for you!) Finally, after many differentiated and standards-based lessons are showcased, you'll get time to explore resources and plan actual lessons that you can take back and use for the start of the year. This hands-on workshop will give you all that you need to start the school year off with a bang! (Follow up with Four Quick Steps to Lasting Classroom Success Part 2 which will focus solely on developing rigorous standards-based assessments.)

Part 2:  Part two of this two-part workshop with Dr. Brandy Hempen will help make teaching easier by focusing on assessment creation. So often teachers use static assessments from a textbook series that are not nearly rigorous enough to help students meet the  requirements of the New IL Learning Standards. Join in on the fun in learning how to create progression documents and standards-based assessments at any grade level and in any subject area. Dr. Hempen has a simple process that you will engage in to create higher-leveled assessments that you can take back and use in your classroom throughout the upcoming school year. Leave this workshop not only with the knowledge you need to create these types of assessments, but with actual assessments to use in instruction as you'll have time to work on creating them with Dr. Hempen throughout the day. This hands-on workshop will give you all that you need to assess your students effectively making a difference on a much larger level.

We strive to bring our educators excellent presenters and of course that comes with a cost. When our educators register to attend a workshop, we expect them to honor their intention to participate. As we move forward, there will be a charge of $125 for participants who register, but do not attend.
